The Foundational Economy Innovation Network (FEIN) was a 12-month collaborative pilot project with the overarching aim of enhancing business and third sector organisations understanding of circular economy and foundational economy principles and developing their innovation capabilities. The programme engaged with 34 organisations, from across South Wales, and was led by Cardiff Metropolitan University in association with Swansea University. The evaluation has been guided by the AdvanceHE Impact Assessment Framework for higher education, drawing on a wide range of evidence including interim and exit survey feedback, witness testimonies, interviews, publications, case studies, workshop shadowing, and project reports. There is pronounced participant satisfaction with delivery throughout the project, which achieved sector reach through engaging with social enterprises, charities, community organisations and businesses. Participating organisations have explored changes to procedures, systems and structures associated with waste reduction, recycling, procurement, supply chain management, partnership working, and sustainable production. In so doing, they have established a community of practice with innovation plans that would benefit from continuing FEIN support.
