C4A wasfirst developed in 2012 in order to target resources to projects designed to engage groups that are underrepresented insports participation, in accordance with the Community Sport Strategy 2012-2020. Eleven projects were implemented under Phase 1 of the initiative. The C4A Phase 2 was launched in 2014 to further tackle inequalities and barriers to participation within sport. A total of 144 applications were receivedandelevenorganisations were awarded grant funding with a total budget commitment of £3 million. Theoverarching objectives of the programme are focused on positive action, changing lives, encouraging new approaches, and increasingregular and frequent sporting activity in Wales.
