Overcoming the Barriers to Accreditation in the Food & Drink Manufacturing Sector in Wales: A Pilot Study

 Supporting small Welsh food and drink manufacturing businesses to obtain food safety certification will help to ensure the safety, security and integrity of the food supply chain, as well as enable growth of the food industry in Wales. The Food Innovation Wales “Barriers to Accreditation” report identified the potential barriers for Welsh manufacturers in obtaining certification. Although other research studies have identified potential barriers, few have explored suitable support mechanisms. None have implemented interventions to overcome barriers. The purpose of this pilot project was to determine the most appropriate and effective way to support small manufacturing businesses in Wales in gaining certification. The development of the bespoke support package was informed by industry-based research and was delivered by experienced Food Innovation Wales technologists.
