Socio-Technical Adventures In Art Design / Anturiaethau Cymdeithasol-Dechnegol Mewn Dylunio Celf

For this talk Jon will discuss how his research interests in mid-century kinetic and media art led him to the world of Science and Technology Studies (STS) – an interdisciplinary approach that explores intersections between the social, cultural and technological. The approach will be described briefly, illustrated and deployed in an analysis of the tea and coffee making facilities of the second floor of CSAD B Block. Jon will also describe how his interest in STS led him to spend a night at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford at the very end of 2022, where hidden deep in the stores he uncovered a mystery object of potentially profound cultural significance.

Ar gyfer y sgwrs hon, bydd Jon yn trafod sut gwnaeth ei ddiddordebau ymchwil yng nghelf cinetig a chyfryngau canol y ganrif ei arwain i fyd Astudiaethau Gwyddoniaeth a Thechnoleg (STS) – dull rhyngddisgyblaethol sy'n archwilio croestoriad rhwng y gwasanaethau cymdeithasol, diwylliannol a thechnolegol. Caiff y dull gweithredu ei ddisgrifio'n fyr, ei ddarlunio a'i ddefnyddio mewn dadansoddiad o gyfleusterau gwneud te a choffi ail lawr Bloc B CSAD. Bydd Jon hefyd yn disgrifio sut y gwnaeth ei ddiddordeb yn STS ei arwain i dreulio noson yn Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Gwyddoniaeth a Chyfryngau yn Bradford ar ddiwedd 2022, lle yn cuddio yn ddwfn yn y siopau datgelodd wrthrych dirgel a allai fod ag arwyddocâd diwylliannol.
