Biofilm flow device set-up - Duckworth 2018

This image shows the typical set-up for using the Duckworth biofilm flow device. It requires a peristaltic pump and autoclavable tubing to give a flow rate of 2ml/h. A "fresh" media bottle feeds simulated wound fluid into the flow device which perfuses the biofilms within each aperture. Spent media is removed to a waste bottle by peristaltic pump. It is possible to simultaneously culture 12 biofilm in a 2D or 3D matrix, and to apply topical treatments and collect sample biofilms without stopping the experiment. The flow cell is enclosed with a lid when in use, and a 0.22um filter allows air-flow without contamination.
