Tackling physical inactivity remains a cross-sector industry challenge and is identified as a priority for the World Health Organisation (WHO) which requires multi-sectoral collaboration and engagement. Evidence reveals stubborn participation gaps and inequalities globally which are mirrored across many different communities in Wales with targets for physical activity not being met.
This paper reports on research which addresses how to develop a more inclusive sport system in Wales. The research adopts a systems-based approach and is being undertaken in two phases. Phase One which is the focus of this paper ran from September 2023 to May 2024 and Phase Two is currently underway (November 2024 to July 2025).
