This paper shares learning from ‘Greening the Screen’ (GTS), a funding intervention led by Ffilm Cymru Wales as part of the UKRI Strength in Places programme, Media Cymru. GTS supports the development and scale-up of research and development that contributes to the transition of the screen sector in Wales to zero-carbon and zero-waste. We describe the context that led to Wales being selected to pilot a transformation plan that aims to reduce emissions associated with filming. We explore the transformation plan, our understanding of the structure and the needs of the industry in Wales and how this has shaped the GTS intervention and its support mechanisms. We provide reflections at the mid-point of the intervention on the extent to which GTS is achieving its aim. Finally, we offer recommendations for designers of policy interventions to support sustainable transitions based on the GTS experience.
