From Value-based to Hospitality Healthcare, do NHS service users perceive value in hospitable healthcare provision in NHS Wales
The concept of value-based healthcare (VBH) was introduced by Porter (2006) to healthcare providers in the United States of America as a new system which would reform healthcare provision. Research in this area has steadily increased, mainly from North America and Europe where the focus was on measuring the relationship between cost and patient outcomes (Vijverberg, 2022). However, recently, there has been an increase in research related to hospitality in healthcare provision (Zsarnoczky-Dulhazi, 2023; Majeed and Kim, 2022; Erickson and Rothberg, 2017; Suess and Mody, 2017). Suess and Mody (2018:1) described healthcare hospitality as ‘healthcare services with hotel-like services’ and focuses on the provision of ‘hotel-like’ atmospherics in healthcare settings.
