After the implementation of the T-MEC, the Mexican agricultural sector has played a fundamental role in the world by increasing its exports by 15% during 2022 compared to 2021, while imports grew 19% in the same period. Despite the war between Russia and Ukraine, which caused the rise in prices of some food products, during the first half of 2022, the Mexican agri-food sector exported 27 645k million USD. Despite this growth, the sector is facing several challenges. For example, The most important challenge that Mexican producers face is adapting their products to the demand of the different global markets and the search for growing niches such as the organic, kosher and halal markets. Other important challenges are related to migration, import substitution strategies, insecurity, poverty and inequality, as well as agri-food governance and the lack of qualified personnel for precision agriculture and the development of the country's own technology in combination with the knowledge and traditional knowledge for optimal use of resources; while the prolonged droughts related to climate change, the rise in the prices of fertilizers controlled by large corporations; as well as the lack of subsidies to agricultural activities aggravate the situation of the sector.
